This morning, check out of your hotel and store your main luggage, taking only a small day pack with essentials for the next 2 days and 1 night. Board a motorised boat for a scenic 2-hour journey to the picturesque island of Taquile.
Taquile Island is renowned for its traditional lifestyle. The island is at a high altitude and the walk is steep, but you can take your time and look around at the picturesque views along the way. There is no rush. Absorb the stunning views and observe the men and boys knitting intricate textiles. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase some of these unique handmade wares, should you wish.
Next, travel by boat to the rarely visited tranquil community of Luquina, situated on the Chucuito Peninsula. Here, you’ll experience the warm hospitality of a local family, who will share their simple yet fulfilling way of life with you. Each family lives a simple life on a small piece of land where they also keep their animals. They may have donkeys, pigs, sheeps and/or chickens, all kept in a little barn next to their house. Participate in community activities, relax in the peaceful surroundings, and enjoy a home-cooked dinner with your host family.
Approximately 15 families in Luquina have opened their homes to visitors and include cooking and housekeeping in their homestay experience. Your homestay accommodation in Luquina is basic yet comfortable, with cosy rooms, private bathrooms, and stunning views of Lake Titicaca. As night falls, indulge in some spectacular stargazing, far from the city lights.
