Day 1 - Arrival in Santa Cruz - Transfer to Your Hotel
Welcome to Bolivia!
After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, make your way out of the airport building where your guide and driver will be waiting for you. You will make the trip from the airport to your hotel. Any questions you may have can be answered by your English speaking guide.
Settle into your hotel and relax after your long trip.
Overnight in Santa Cruz

Day 2 - Santa Cruz Tour with Local Knowledge and Insight

Early this morning you will set out on a day of exploring Santa Cruz with your private guide and driver. You will start out by visiting El Curichi la Madre (open Monday to Friday). This natural wetland just 15-20 minutes from downtown Santa Cruz is a haven for bird and wildlife watching along with easy strolling through beautiful woodlands. If you are lucky you may spot the resident sloths and monkeys.
You will then head back to downtown Santa Cruz to visit the Main Square “Plaza 24 de Septiembre”. Surrounded by a stunning Cathedral and important museums the plaza is a picturesque location for photographs and to watch the world of Santa Cruz go by. Continuing on you will visit the important monuments of the city along with Arte Campo where you can find some unique and well priced local souvenirs.
After a typical lunch at a local restaurant you will transfer to Porongo, just outside of Santa Cruz. Here you will visit this small town and its surroundings. You will also have the chance to sample a typical snack of the area.
You will then return to your hotel in Santa Cruz to rest up.

Day 3 - Travel to Samaipata - Visit “El Fuerte” Archaeological Site
Leaving Santa Cruz behind, you will travel approximately 120 Kms to Samaipata, a quaint village at the foothills of the Andes and our gateway into Aboro National Park. You will visit the nearby archaeological site of El Fuerte, the most important archaeological site in Eastern Bolivia. A site which was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1998.
“El Fuerte” is located on the top of a hill. This archeological monument reaches a height of 1950 metres above sea level and is on the ridge of a hill of a sandy rock where ancient cultures
sculptured figures but emphasised snakes and pumas, as well as waterways and wells, triangular and rectangular seats, vaulted niches, and other details you will have time to explore.
After visiting the archeological site you will move onto the Anthropological Museum. The museum contains important pieces from excavations that were made in El Fuerte and its surroundings.

Day 4 - Visit Amboro National Park - Return by Road to Santa Cruz

After breakfast, early in the morning, travel to Amboro National Park for a visit to the cloud forest via a scenic highway. In Amboro National Park you will explore via a 3 hour circuit of easy walking through cloud forest. The experience will have you return to the period of the dinosaurs. You’ll find plenty of photo opportunities, not only of the misty tree fern forest, but also plentiful bird life with species present such as the beautiful and active hummingbirds, also mosses, bromeliads and orchids.
After your explorations you will travel back to Santa Cruz and your hotel for the evening.

Day 5 - Transfer to Santa Cruz Airport - Flight Santa Cruz to Sucre - Arrival in Sucre and Transfer to Your Hotel - City Tour of Sucre’s Highlights
You will be collected from your hotel after breakfast and transferred to the airport in Santa Cruz for your flight to Sucre.
Flight: Santa Cruz -> Sucre
On arrival in Sucre you will be met by your private guide and driver and transferred to your hotel. Your guide will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the local area.
After settling into your hotel, your guide will show you around the city of Sucre with local knowledge and insights. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the most prominent sites of the city along with getting a real feel for how people live and what life is like in the capital of Bolivia. Some of the sites you will visit are the Recoleta, the House of Liberty where Simon Bolivar signed the Independence of Bolivia, Museo del Tesoro and the Museum of Indigenous Art (ASUR).
Afterwards you’ll return to your hotel for the evening.

Day 6 - Explore the Colonial Streets of Sucre - Travel to Potosi and Check In at Your Hotel before Exploring the Museum

In the morning you will take some time to visit the Church of San Francisco, this 17th century church will surprise you with its ornate architecture and details. Don’t forget to take the time to look up and admire the different styles of architecture coming together in a great display of the city’s rich history and culture. Afterward, stroll the Colonial streets with your guide and marvel at this often overlooked city.
After lunch you will travel by road to Potosi. Potosi is a Colonial city famous for being the source of silver during those abundant Colonial times. The rich mountain towers over the city, and according to legend, it has produced enough silver to build a solid silver bridge from Potosi, in Bolivia, to Madrid, in Spain!
Potosi was declared by UNESCO “The Historical and Cultural Legacy of Mankind”
You will check into your hotel and have some time to rest and visit the hotel’s museum at leisure.

Day 7 - Explore Potosi’s Silver History with a Visit to the Royal Mint of Potosi - Travel to Uyuni
This morning you will explore Potosi and its rich history a little more with a visit to the Royal Mint (La Casa de la Moneda). During this visit you will marvel at the wooden machinery which was used to make the silver coins for Spain during the colony.
Lunch will be enjoyed before travelling on towards Uyuni and your hotel for the night. After these days of travel and the exploring that is ahead of you for the next couple of days it is recommended to have an early night.

Day 8 - Explore the Bolivian Salt Flats

Heading out into the salt flats today for what may be the highlight of your trip to Bolivia, definitely the most anticipated.
Uyuni is the largest salt flat on earth, located on the Bolivian Andean Altiplano; its size is 12000 square kilometres. The Bolivian Andes offer stunning scenery which can’t be matched. The sound of silence whilst you are out on the salt flats makes you feel like you are the only people in the world, your heart beats faster and your mind tries to comprehend the sights your eyes are given you. The surreal pentagons of crystalline salt, the pure sky, the colourful lagoons, the cacti and the flamingos. It certainly makes you feel like no other place like this in this world.
A stop for lunch will be taken at Isla Pescado, otherwise known as “Incawasi”, an oasis with formations of algae and fossils. The island is covered in thousands of giant Columnar Cacti, which may be more than a hundred years old, growing to a height of over 12 metres high. The landscape against the background of the salt pans, extending to the horizon makes it an ideal place for photographers, professional and amateur, due to the awe-inspiring scenery a bad photo is hard to take. After a sunset cocktail on the shores of the Uyuni salt flats, you will return to the hotel.
Rainy season program (usually from December to April)
In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and travel to a salt processing workshop in Colchani, the entrance town to the Uyuni salt flats. Here you will start an amazing excursion to the salt flats.
Uyuni is the largest salt flat on earth, located on the Bolivian Andean Altiplano; its size is 12000 square kilometres. The Bolivian Andes offer stunning scenery which can’t be matched. The sound of silence whilst you are out on the salt flats makes you feel like you are the only people in the world, your heart beats faster and your mind tries to comprehend the sights your eyes are given you. The surreal pentagons of crystalline salt, the pure sky, the colourful lagoons, the cacti and the flamingos. It certainly makes you feel like no other place like this in this world.
Note: during the rainy season, for your safety, some highlights in the area are not reachable.
We will provide waterproof boots for travellers during this season, please ensure you advise your shoe size in advance.

Day 9 - Visit the Train Cemetery and Salt Factory - Travel onto the Salt Flats to Visit Lagoons
After breakfast you will head out of town to visit the train cemetery. The train cemetery is an eerie and fascinating place to visit. It was once a bustling railway hub, connecting Uyuni to the rest of Bolivia and neighbouring countries. However with the decline of the mining industry and the introduction of more efficient transportation methods the rainway was abandoned. Here you will be able to capture stunning images of the rusty trains against the vibrant blue sky.
From here you will visit a salt processing factory, you will see the salt production methods from collection/extraction all the way through to refining and packaging. During this time you will also learn what products are produced, their uses, their final destinations and how they will get there, now that trains are no longer used. This is a great opportunity to see how the local people work and live, as these operations are locally run.
You will then continue to your remote Eco-Hotel or Deluxe Airstream Camper seeing wondrous sights along the way. The Honda and Canada Lagoons offer breath-taking views of the lagoon’s shimmering waters backdropped against the surrounding landscapes. You may have the chance to observe majestic birds including Andean Geese and Ducks in their natural habitat.
The Turiquiqi Lagoon with its vibrant colours of turquoise, blue and green. Flamingos and Vicuñas are known to frequent this area.
You will also visit the tiny town of San Cristobal where you can wander through the narrow streets lined with Traditional Adobe houses and observe the rustic charm of the town. Visit the Church of San Cristobal with its stone carvings and stunning stained-glass windows. You may also pick up some beautifully colourful textiles or woven baskets at the local Handicraft Market.
After arrival at your accommodation you can stroll along the shores of the Hedionda Lagoon where you can marvel at the lagoons’ striking colours, surrounding volcano rock formations and attempt to differentiate the three varieties of flamingos which live and visit here.

Day 10 - Travel and Explore in Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve

Today you will be venturing into Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, so ensure you have a good breakfast to give you energy for all you will see today. Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, located in Southwestern Bolivia, is a stunning protected area known for its unique landscapes comprising lagoons, salt pans, fumaroles, volcanoes, snow-capped peaks, plains, thermal springs and rivers. The area is known for its diverse wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled for Vicuna, Llama, Alpaca, Flamingo, Andean Geese, Condor, Puma and Viscacha (Andean cat). You may see ancient trade routes, pre-Columbian ruins and traditional indigenous communities.
Here you will visit the Red Lagoon, spanning an area of 60 km2 and standing at an altitude of 4278 metres above sea level. It is characterised by the red tone of its waters and inhabited by flocks of flamingos, with three species being present here. The Tokoko, which has red plumage; the Chururu, which has white plumage and the Jututu which is halfway between the two with pink plumage.
The next stop will be the out of this world “Sol de Mañana” Geysers, with fumaroles and volcanic craters of spectacular formations, covering 1km2 and reaching up to 100 metres in height. Their eruptions are intense and there is various activity from the fumaroles.
Continuing on you will visit the Green Lagoon. The dazzling turquoise-green colour of the lagoon has been created by copper and magnesium deposits and has an impressive view of the Licancabur Volcano.
Travel back to Uyuni and your hotel for the evening.

Day 11 - Explore the Small Village of Coquesa and View the Tunupa Volcano - Travel to Tahua
Venturing out over the salt flats today you will drive to the small village of Coquesa. Coquesa is located at the foot of the Tunupa Volcano, the guardian of the Uyuni Salt Flats.
The stone corrals, which have a chessboard appearance, decorate the slopes of the volcano. In this area, shepherds walk slowly with their llamas, or plant quinoa in the fertile volcanic soil. Towards the crater layers of sediment with a fantastic variety of colours can be see under a clear blue sky.
From this point you will have one of the most beautiful view of the Uyuni Salt Flats.
Stroll through the village of Coquesa and then hike to the cave of the Coquesa Mummies.
Afterwards you will continue travelling over the salt flats to your hotel in Tahua.

Day 12 - Travel to Sajama

A long day travelling will be made today to reach Sajama National Park. Approximately 8-9 hours of driving will be done today, with outstanding views and changes in landscape to be seen from your window. The trip will begin heading towards Jirira and then continuing onto the Salar de Coipasa which is the 5th largest salt flat in the world and the second largest in Bolivia.
Passing through the town of Sabaya on the way to Sajama you will have time to stop for a boxed lunch with scenic views as you go.
Note: During the rainy season we will not cross the Coipasa salt flat, but rather we will drive along national route 27 and travel approximately 530 km, passing through the towns of Rio Mulatos, Sebaruyo, Pampa Aullagas and Turco until reaching the town of Sajama (approximately 11 hours travel time)

Day 13 - Explore Sajama National Park - Hike to Khasiri Lagoon - Travel to La Paz
In the morning you will board your vehicle and you will begin your exploration of the charming landscapes and surroundings of the National Park. Firstly visiting a geyser area, where you will find volcanic activity, fumaroles and bubbling water in several of the natural pools, the colour of the mountains, brown and shades of yellow, make us aware of the presence of sulphur.
At this point you will begin a walk of approximately 3 hours to reach the Khasiri Lagoon at an altitude of 4830 metres above sea level. The spectacle awaiting rewards your effort, in the area birds such as cranes, seagulls and others birds accustomed to altitude can be observed. After some time dedicated to rest, take in the visits and snap some once in a lifetime photographs, you begin your walk the same way back to return to the area of the geysers.
Your vehicle will be waiting for you to commence the trip back to La Paz and your hotel.

Day 14 - Free day in La Paz

After your long days and travels, you will have a free day to relax, explore or to catch up on necessities. If you feel like strolling around your local area, ask the concierge to point you in the direction to try some traditional Bolivian Cuisine. You can sample some favourites, such as Salteñas, papas rellenas or humitas. You may come across some of the wild locals on the menu.

Day 15 - Tour La Paz with Local Knowledge and Insight - Take a Cable Car Ride - Visit the Valley of the Moon
Today you will enjoy a city tour of La Paz. The city and its surroundings can transport you to a mysterious past where any corner, any street, is a hidden treasure where adventure begins; a living history which treasures the pre-Hispanic times with all their traditions and magic rites on its streets. The indigenous, colonial and modern areas, the Indian Market, Witch Doctor’s Market and breath-taking panoramas are all framed by the majestic Illimani Mountain.
After exploring the Historic Centre you will travel to the outskirts of the city to visit the Valley of the Moon, a clay formation resembling the surface of the moon. You will also ride on the 21st century Cable Car that offers you a unique birds eye view of the city of La Paz. Glide silently over the inhabitants going about their daily lives in the marvellous transport method. Travelling via cable car truly allows you to witness the tradition of the city mixed with the newest of technologies.
In the afternoon, you will visit Calle Jaen, which offers the museum of traditional instruments, the pre-Colonial precious metals Museum, Murillo House and the Costumbrista Museum.
Note: Museums in La Paz are closed on Mondays.

Day 16 - Visit the Palca Canyon

Travelling outside of La Paz today you will visit the Palca Canyon, a little visited area of Bolivia. More than 7 million years ago, rain and wind formed this strange landscape formation in the ravines of the rivers that flow into the Amazon. The presence of mineral pigments that give colour to the mountains, together with the presence of Falcons, Eagles and other Andean birds, show us a unique ecosystem in the Andes. Leaving early in the morning and heading south of the city of La Paz we will arrive at the small community of Palca, approximately 2 hours drive. You will observe the immense Illimani Mountain, 6 480 metres, along the way you can see multi-coloured flowers that adorn the landscape of this community that maintains its old customs and ways of life, we will begin a walk (of approximately 3 hours) to arrive at a warm area of crystalline rivers. After a well deserved rest and a simple lunch, you will return to the city.

Day 17 - Travel to Lake Titicaca - Boat trip to Explore the Island of the Moon - Boat trip to the Island of the Sun
This morning you will embark on an overland journey from La Paz to Huatajata, situated on the shores of the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
A short drive will take you to Cocotoni Bay, where you’ll board a hydrofoil cruise to the Island of the Moon (Isla de la Luna), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visit the revered Sun Virgins Temple «Iñak Uyu», a sacred site on Lake Titicaca where the rhythmic waves evoke memories of the past and the importance of women in the Inca State is evident. These women played a vital role in driving advancements in textiles, agriculture, culture, and spirituality, enabling the development of dehydrated potato derivatives like «chuño» and «tunta», which are still valued today. The temple’s architecture is notable for its forward vaulting technique and trapezoidal, stepped elements.
Next, journey to the enchanting Island of the Sun (Isla del Sol), a haven of pastoral beauty and home to traditional Andean communities. En route to the Posada del Inca Eco Lodge, stop at the Pilcocaina Palace, constructed from stones joined with mud using Tiwanakota technology, which incorporates principles of Andean cosmology. Upon arrival at the Posada, enjoy a refreshing coca tea in the garden, followed by lunch.
In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk to explore the surrounding area, immersing yourself in the untouched, bucolic scenery that seems frozen in time, offering a glimpse into the traditional way of life on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

Day 18 - Morning at Leisure - Visit the Grand Stairs and Sacred Fountain - Travel to Copacabana and Visit the Dark Indian Virgin and Shrine - Meet a Local Family - Return to La Paz

Spend the morning at leisure, then embark on an exciting journey around noon to explore the Inca «Grand Stairs» and the Sacred Fountain, where you can taste the water believed to grant eternal youth and happiness.
Enjoy lunch at the Uma Kollu Archaeological Restaurant, which features a charming handicraft market.
After lunch, take a hydrofoil cruise to the picturesque village and harbour of Copacabana, where you’ll visit the shrine and the Dark Indian Virgin, as well as a local market. Continue your journey with an overland trip to Huatajata, crossing the Tiquina Straits by motor boat. Upon arrival, visit the Andean Roots Eco Village, which includes the Altiplano Museum, Handicrafts village, Mud Igloos, and the mortuary towers of the Urus Chipayas. Here you will meet the renowned Limachi family, builders of the RA II and Tigris, which successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Get up close and personal with elegant vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, and the mythical Suri.
Finally, return to your hotel in La Paz by road, which offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Andean mountains, making for an unforgettable experience in Bolivia.

Day 19 - Transfer to La Paz Airport - Flight La Paz to Rurrenabaque - Boat trip to Your Lodge in Madidi National Park.

Early this morning you will be transferred to La Paz’s Airport in El Alto. From here you will catch a flight to start your Bolivian Jungle experience.

Arrive in the vibrant town of Rurrenabaque, nestled in the heart of Bolivia’s lush Amazonian rainforest.
Upon arrival, receive warm assistance at the airport and transfer to the port, where an exhilarating 3-hour boat trip awaits. As you navigate the majestic Beni and Tuichi Rivers, marvel at the breathtaking landscapes and spot an array of exotic wildlife, from colourful macaws to playful River Dolphins.
As you enter the pristine Madidi National Park, one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, the anticipation builds for an unforgettable adventure. Arrive at the eco-lodge around noon, where a refreshing fruit juice welcome drink awaits, along with a chance to familiarise yourself with your comfortable accommodations. Savour a delicious lunch, showcasing the region’s unique flavours and ingredients.
In the afternoon, embark on an enthralling guided hike along the «dry stream» trail, where the secrets of the rainforest’s incredible plant diversity are revealed. Day 20 - Madidi National Park Activities
Embark on a thrilling adventure following a hearty breakfast, as you set off towards the breathtaking «El Farallón de las Parabas», a verdant oasis nestled deep within the Amazonian rainforest.
The moderately paced, 3.5-hour hike will take you through a tapestry of lush foliage, where you’ll encounter towering trees and discover the ingenious ways in which the local flora is utilised. Upon arrival at «El Farallón de las Parabas», you’ll be treated to a spectacular display of vibrant birdlife, including majestic macaws and parrots, as they soar overhead, their colours glistening in the sunlight. Take a moment to drink in the awe-inspiring panorama, as the Amazonian rainforest stretches out before you, with the meandering rivers adding a touch of serenity to the scene.
Next, make your way to the tranquil Tuichi River, where you’ll participate in a fun and rustic activity – building a traditional log raft. Once your craft is ready, embark on a leisurely, 2-hour navigation of the river, taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding rainforest.
Finally, arrive back at the welcoming lodge, where a delicious lunch awaits, providing the perfect opportunity to relax and recharge.

Day 21 - Travel to the Pampas of Santa Rosa - Explore the River by Boat

Begin the day with an early wake up, followed by a delicious breakfast to fuel your exciting journey ahead.
Depart Rurrenabaque at approximately 8:30 am and embark on a comfortable vehicle transfer to Santa Rosa, offering a unique opportunity to spot an array of incredible wildlife, including sloths, anteaters, toucans, and many more.
Upon arrival at midday, take a short 15 minute boat ride to the picturesque Eco Lodge «Las Tortugas», nestled amidst the lush Amazonian rainforest. After familiarising yourself with your comfortable accommodations, indulge in a delicious lunch, showcasing the region’s unique flavours and ingredients.
In the afternoon, following a rejuvenating rest, set off on an enthralling boat excursion along the tranquil Yacuma River, providing a privileged perspective on the incredible wildlife that inhabits this remarkable ecosystem. Marvel at the array of creatures, including lizards, alligators, birds, capybaras, and turtles, and capture unforgettable memories through photographs.
As a thrilling finale to the day’s adventures, take the opportunity to swim with the majestic Pink Dolphins that inhabit this enchanting paradise (seasonal activity).

Day 22 - Explore the Pampas - Search for Anaconda - Return to Rurrenabaque
Rise early to witness the breathtaking spectacle of the sunrise over the pampas, as the awakening landscape comes alive with a mesmerising symphony of sounds, courtesy of the howler monkeys and a vibrant array of bird species.
Following a hearty breakfast, embark on another exhilarating boat excursion along the serene Yacuma River, in search of the perfect spot to disembark and venture into the lush wilderness in pursuit of the majestic anaconda, a truly unforgettable encounter, should luck be on your side. As you navigate the river, continue to marvel at the incredible diversity of wildlife, including an array of bird species, capybaras, alligators, turtles, and many more incredible creatures.
After a satisfying lunch, depart the pampas and begin the return journey to Rurrenabaque by car, bringing to a close an unforgettable adventure amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of the Bolivian Amazon.

Day 23 - Flight Rurrenabaque to La Paz - Arrival in La Paz and Transfer to Your Hotel

This morning you will board your return flight to La Paz

Your guide and driver will be waiting for you on arrival in La Paz. You will make the trip from the airport to your hotel. Settle into your hotel and relax after your days in the jungle and pampas.
